NextOcean co-design workshops

NextOcean conducted two co-design workshops in Portugal in June 2023, collaborating closely with potential users to enhance our services for sustainable fisheries and aquaculture.

The first workshop, hosted by our partners the Portuguese Maritime Police, focused on our Fisheries Monitoring and Surveillance service. Participants explored their data needs and provided valuable insights for enhancing the service's usefulness. Key topics for identification of illegal fishing included key geographical regions, data requirements, limitations, and security. We also showcased our online store and shared key conclusions.

The second workshop, held in picturesque Peniche and hosted by +Atlantic, delved into all six NextOcean services. The workshop included presentations by the co-design coordinator Peter Miller and scientists developing the services: Andrey Kurekin, Ana Garcia Ferreira, Miguel Chapela and Marion Sutton. Both in-person and online breakout sessions explored how well our services met user needs and identified areas for further development, including expanded geographical and species coverage.

We extend a massive thank you to all the participants who made these workshops a resounding success. Your active participation and insightful contributions are truly appreciated. Together, we can shape the future of NextOcean services for sustainable fisheries and aquaculture.
